Explore the Great PA Wilds!
The Pennsylvania Wilds is home to some of the most spectacular wild lands east of the Mississippi and is one of the best outdoor recreation destinations in North America. It covers approximately 25% of the state's land acreage in north central Pennsylvania, yet just 4% of the population. The region is home to more than 2 million acres of public land, 50 state game lands, 29 state parks, 8 state forests and 2 National Wild and Scenic Rivers. It boasts the largest elk herd in the northeast, abundant wildlife and hundreds of miles of land and water trails.
Arguably, one of the most beautiiful times to visit our region is during leaf peeping. Fall foilage typically peaks for several weeks beginning around the end of September. Starting September 27, weekly fall foliage reports can be found online on the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation of Natural Resources (DCNR) website and is updated every Thursday.
The Maple Shade Mansion is centrally located among the Allegheny National Forest, Cook Forest and the Ancients and Elk Country. We invite you to explore our region and surround yourself with its breathtaking beauty.
